Mountain Village Charter School seeking board members
Mountain Village Charter School is seeking new members to join their board of directors in January.
Mountain Village is a public, tuition-free, Nature-based, Montessori elementary School, engaging students in experiences that integrate natural environments with the Montessori curriculum, igniting achievement in academic, social-emotional and physical development.
Mountain Village received state approval on July 18th, 2013 to create a k-8public charter school serving a total of 150 students. We opened with forty 1st-3rd grade students on August 20th, 2014. Currently we serve 60 students in 1st-4th grade. We are growing the school 1 grade level per year till we reach full enrollment of 150 K-8 students.
The organization is particularly interested in candidates who can bring knowledge and experience about diverse populations; who have skills in philanthropy/fundraising/finance, media/advertising, law/justice, public charter schools/public school/education; Montessori/nature-based and who are connected to Grafton County.
According to the bylaws, Mountain Village Charter School is governed by 5-15 passionate and committed community members from around New Hampshire with a range of experiences and networks. The board of trustees meets approximately twelve times per year. Each director serves on at least one committee and attends face to face and virtual meetings as the work of the committee dictates and is a financial supporter, of any amount large or small, of the school. The current committees include curriculum, governance, finance and fundraising and human resources.
The governance committee recruits committee members and board candidates year round. Elections for directors occur at the annual meeting, which is typically held in December. Terms begin in January and run for three years. Directors may serve up to three consecutive terms.
