the annual baker river regatta….

Is now ASQUAMCHUMAUKEE REGATTA

Prior to the colonization of the Americas, the Baker River was known as Asquamchumaukee, or “crooked river flowing from the mountains.” The MVCS board of trustees voted to rename the event to reflect MVCS’ Montessori values and its commitment to providing an inclusive narrative of our region’s history. For more information on the naming of the Baker River, click here.

MVCS is hosting the 5th Asquamchumaukee Regatta on Saturday, May 6, 2023. With both a short and long course, as well as novice and expert classes, this is a race for all paddlers!

Racers are encouraged to pre-register online.

The Asquamchumaukee (Baker) River is a beautiful quick moving mountain stream, flowing through farms and forest of the sandy Baker valley. River levels from 180 cfs to 1800 cfs offer excellent paddling and racing conditions. The Regatta offers two options for racers to enjoy this paddling gem, a long and short course (see below).

The Short Course is well-suited to novices. Boats in these classes must be recreational, not designed specifically for racing. For all classes except “Unlimited” boat length may not exceed 18’6”.
