Winter Program: Thoughts from the Brook Trout

Kera: I noticed at skating this year that there were a lot of students who were totally new to skating. But after spending a little time on the rink, they quickly got the hang of it. It was a very fun time because there was music playing and we could all play tag on the ice as long as we were careful of everyone else. I personally enjoyed that we were able to do some freestyle skating and we could take breaks as we needed to. There wasn’t any pressure to perform constantly or skate the entire time, and we could snack whenever was appropriate. I’m excited to see the difference in the skaters from the start of the program to the end of the program.

Caroline: Though we’ve only had two winter program days so far this year, it hasn’t stopped anyone from having fun. On the slopes of Waterville Valley, experts were bombing down the black diamonds, and people in the intermediate groups were having a blast testing their new skills from last year. Even the beginners and never-evers were falling in love with skiing and snowboarding as they got better, little by little. The ski hills were in good condition this year and, with the recent snow storms, they have only gotten better this season. Everyone wishes that the program could last longer each day and for the rest of the winter season and they are looking forward to every program day they can get.

Corva: Winter program has been really fun! The chaperones are nice and they let us pick where we want to go based on our own abilities. Everything has felt safe but also respectful - students aren’t being forced to do easier slopes when they are ready for more challenging ones. My favorite part this year is that there is some extra time built in between runs to check in with my friends and see how they are doing and have fun going with them to the lodge to compare stories and experiences.
