winter solstice

The all school Winter Solstice Celebration is an annual MVCS tradition that brings together our entire community of students, staff, families, and friends. The longest night of the year, the winter solstice also celebrates the return of the sun, as the earth continues its orbit around the sun, bringing longer days and shorter nights.

In the past, we have celebrated this midwinter event with an all school performance of songs, poetry, and storytelling; afterwards, families have come together and shared a meal. In 2020, we held our first Winter Solstice Fort Creek Meditation Walk, with families winding their way through a woodland lantern-lit path, enjoying student art works in ice, snow, and plants. Classes decorated their outdoor shelters and the MVCS Family Committee provided hot chocolate and holiday treats. These events provide an evening of light, love, and community during our long winter hours of darkness.
